Who Was Toby?
This site is dedicated to a horse leased by a kid that disappeared. Most likely he was shipped to slaughter while it was still happening in the United States.
Toby was a young, gorgeous, huge, off the track thoroughbred gelding who had been donated to a riding center when his previous owner passed away. He proved to be fancy but green. That year he sailed through equitation and hunter classes and even competed in metal finals. He was a willing, honest, and loyal horse that never even had the chance to learn lead changes.
After a few months of riding and showing Toby developed a slight lameness. The riding club only offered stalls and one turn out not much bigger then a stall, he would need some time and space for this injury to heal.
His lease was relinquished being told he would be able to spend time at another riding facility with more space and then become a trail horse while this injury healed.
The day he was to leave blankets, medications, and ace was left to go along with him to help him with the transport and arrival at his new location; none of which were taken or even touched.
Two years later Toby was searched for high and low at the equestrian center he was suppose to have been sent to. Toby was nowhere to be found and no one reported ever seeing him at this center. Any contacts to either center have always been ignored.
Later it was learned this riding club routinely sends horses to slaughter and lies to the youth that care for these horses. They profit off donated horses and once no longer profitable they sell them by the pound. This riding club still exists today.
This site is dedicated to help horses like Toby and to all the horses that have sadly disappeared and shipped to slaughter.
Toby's Fund encourages parents to be extremely careful where they let their children ride horses and suggests parents ensure humane treatment to these horses once they are no longer profitable.
